Marvel Rivals launch roadmap — Full Details

November 16, 2024

We've finally gotten a look at the Marvel Rivals roadmap where we can see the game's plans for launch and beyond, including full details on Marvel Rivals monetization, the first Marvel Rivals season, "Dooms' Rise", and hero releases!

The Marvel Rivals launch kicks off its inaugural season — the month-long Season Zero, Dooms' Rise. This season will see a total roster of 33 playable characters, as well as a total of 8 different maps to play on.

Season One is expected to begin in January 2025, which will set the framework for seasons going forward: new heroes, new maps, new team-up abilities, and possibly new game modes. Seasons are expected to last around three months apiece.

The developers reiterated that all Marvel Rivals characters will be free to play as, and the development team is keen to avoid any "pay to win" scenarios. Monetization is planned for costumes and cosmetics, as well as seasonal battle passes. Given that Season Zero will be much shorter than a regular season, it's own battle pass has less content but is also priced accordingly.

Servers are confirmed to run at a 60-tick server rate, ensuring low latency and accurate gameplay for all players. Worldwide server regions also look comfortable, with Marvel Rivals servers set up in North America, South America, Europe, Middle-East, and Asia-Pacific. Full voice-over language support extends to English, Chinese, and Japanese, with 16 text languages also supported at launch.

Developer Q&A

Marvel Rivals executive producer Danny Koo stuck around after the roadmap reveal to answer some of the community's burning questions.

On battle pass pricing:
"Pricing is not lock[ed] yet but it will be fair"

On the cadence of content releasing during Season Zero:
"I say roughly around mid Dec should have everything ... 33 heroes all available on the launch day"

On whether ranked will be available during Season Zero:
"It is up to dev to see if ranking [will be available during] season zero ... Want to make sure rank matching is sufficient"

On whether there will be holiday events (e.g., Christmas/Winter events):
"We will have fun events for sure"

On whether the remaining unannounced characters will be revealed in the pre-launch countdown:
"Yep, that means 6 more gonna come in this 33 days countdown"

On whether Marvel Rivals will have role queue, or continue as open queue only:
"No role queue, at all - we want everyone to play who they want"

On cross-platform progression, such as exclusive skins earned on PC during the beta being also available on console:
"No, we don't have cross save at launch"
