Season Two Developer Vision: All Upcoming Changes
April 03, 2025
The next dev vision is here! Let's dive in to all of the announced upcoming changes and new features.
Vanguard Emma Frost arrives with the Season 2 debut April 11 with Ultron coming in Season 2.5; from Season 3 onwards, seasons will be cut to two months for a faster release cadence of one new character per month.
New costume color changes have been announced, allowing players to have different palette options for certain costumes. We don't know yet whether these alternative color schemes are free and built-in, or will be paid extras.
Costume gifting will also be arriving soon, allowing players to purchase costumes or bundles for people on their friends list. An important thing to note is that gifting costs Lattice instead of the usual Units, so you won't be able to gift with freely-earned currency.
New team-up abilities will be coming in season two with some existing ones being disabled or changed. New team-ups include Emma Frost allowing Psylocke/Magneto to create illusory clones:
Doctor Strange grants Scarlet Witch a new magical barrage ability:
Captain America gives Winter Soldier the ability to charge to an ally similar to The Thing, and counterattack a nearby enemy:
For existing team-ups, to prevent team-up bloat multiple abilities are being disabled or having members adjusted. Metallic Chaos and Voltaic Union are being disabled completely. Psylocke will no longer have access to Magik's Dimensional Shortcut, Winter Soldier cannot benefit from Rocket's Ammo Overload, Namor is swapping out from Chilling Charisma, and Doctor Strange is no longer part of Hulk's Gamma Charge team-up. These make sense as each removed character will be part of a new or adjusted team-up, including Namor now being part of the Gamma Charge team-up with (likely terrifying) gamma charged monstro spawns.
As expected, there will be a soft rank reset at the start of season two, meaning you will begin the season multiple tiers below your current rank. Beginning from season two, there will also be map pools in competitive mode, with Yggsgard: Royal Palace and Tokyo 2099: Shin-Shibuya being replaced with the new Hellfire Gala: Krakoa domination map.
The ranked pick/ban system will now be available starting at Gold 3 rather than Diamond 3, letting players experience and benefit from the more competitive environment earlier. Furthermore, more weight will be added to individual performance for end of match scoring (win/loss), so performing well even in a disastrous match will be better evaluated. This means that skilled players should rank up more quickly overall.
Finally, let's take a look at rank distribution across Season 1.5:
